Expedition 7 - 3rd October 1998
Torr Mor Lookout

The expedition to the Torr Mor Lookout assembled at the Dorlin telephone kiosk at 9.30. The members were Allan, Amy, Charlene, David, Donalda, Ellen, John, Kathryn, Kirsten, Mary, Robert, Robbie and Robin.

Before we started, John released two wood mice from a live trap. They quickly ran off into the bracken.

The expedition headed up the road to a small hill with some strange stones arranged on the top. It then crossed the Glac Fuair (the cold glen), and climbed up to the top of the Torr Mor through deep heather.

At the top, after everyone had a snack, John led the expedition members in small groups down into the lookout, which was built into the cliff face.

From the lookout, Amy and Maxine shouted across to their granny's house in Shielfoot. It was Mrs Sinclair's birthday, and both Mr and Mrs Sinclair came to the door and waved back - the whole expedition made a lot of noise.

Stopping to look at some scratches on the rocks which had been made by a glacier, the expedition descended a gully which had the remains of several walls across it. This gully could have been used to hide cattle long ago.

Halfway down was a big spreading oak tree, which the explorers climbed into and Ellen took a photograph.

On the way to the next stop, some of the group picked brambles.

At the well at the Creagan Erich (spring rock), was a dead fox among the rocks.

The expedition finally walked back up the hill to the starting point and five members used binoculars to examine a raven's nest on the rock face.
