Expedition 21 - 10th April 1999
Kinlochmoidart and Brunery

After perfect weather on Good Friday it was back to the wind and the rain for this expedition.
The explorers were: Claire, Ellen McG., Iain, Karen, Margaret, Robbie plus Pam.
The expedition started from Kinlochmoidart Bridge where the explorers had another look at the inscriptions and heard about the development fo the roads in Kinlochmoidart.
They then had a brief run in the cars to Brunery where they looked at the bridge, the site of the old ford and then the local houses and saw two interesting carved gateposts and the route of the path up towards Capt. Robertson's Cairn.
Then back to the cars and along to the fish hatchery dam below the March Pool where John told them about the freshwater mussels, which are now protected by law, and the problem of the extraction of timber from the Brunery Wood Plantation. They saw an old photograph of the suspension bridge used when this wood was planted. They also saw the old road to Dalilea, which will probably be the route of a future expedition.
They the expedition moved to the top parking place and left the cars to walk up to the Glenforslan dam, passing many rocks and the old fank, which was very sturdy and probably used for cattle when the droves came through the Glen.

The Pictures
The Leader unaccountably left the large drawing sheets behind, so the only pictures were on small sheets. Karen and Claire drew the only ones I saved: Karen drew the dam, with concrete steps up face, and a view of the big fank. Claire drew a stone wall with some sheep and a picture of Pam and John eating lunch at Mave's.
