Expedition 24 - 8th May 1999
The Silver Walk

Another good day for a long expedition, with four new young recruits. The explorers were: Amy MacMaster, Amy Mulhern, Bernadette, Charlene, Claire, David John, Iain, Jack, JD, Karen, Laura, Lucy MacMillan, Margaret, Maxine and Ryan plus Sheila Patterson and John MacMillan.

The expedition started from the car park at Dorlin, but before they even reached the start point, some of the explorers had already watched a red squirrel from the car. We walked along the Silver Walk as far as Briaig where we looked at the old village before climbing over the hill and returning via Scardoish. The expedition became very extended at one point and the front group became lost, entailing a fraught search around the hills.

Everyone was exhausted and some were getting short on temper when we finally reached the cars and were driven back to Mave's for lunch, drawing pictures while the many orders were prepared.

The Pictures
Only three drawings were completed, some explorers went round collecting signatures of the group and some made paper aeroplanes with the drawing sheets. This was to some extent explainable by the length of the journey and the various crises involved, not to mention the fact that this was the youngest group ever to undertake an expedition. Amy's drawing showed herself as the central worried character while the group of small, distant children were arrowed in the corner. Jack made a fine effort at showing the squirrel in the act of attacking an acorn and Lucy spent a long time on a rather complex representation of the houses and trees of Briaig village. The blue is a component of a rainbow.
