Expedition 71 - 8th December 2001
A short walk in Mingarry

The day was wet and very gloomy. We only got three explorers: only Amy, Iain and Robert with Ann and Sandra as helpers with one dog.
This was a very short expedition since it was so cold and dark. We started from the Mingarry 'avenue' where the explorers looked at the place where the milestone was buried during World War 2. Then we followed the old bank dyke into the wood and crossed to see the grove of big beech trees. We came out of the wood towards the MacMasters' croft and spent some time looking for the site of the old spring used by the people at Mingarry Point. The explorers looked at the new house at Mingarry Point and John showed them where there used to be an outhouse which might have contained a pig sty, there were several pig sties in Mingarry, unusual for this area.
Finally we went back to the centre for a soup and the chance to get warm and the explorers used the microscope to examine several specimens they had brought back.
