Expedition 81 - 22nd February 2003
Ariundle and Fee Donald

This was the best expedition we had for ages. The weather was sunny and calm, although the puddles were frozen when we started we never felt cold. Taking advantage of the good conditions were six explorers (in alphabetical order): Amy, Benjamin, Ellen, John Donaldson, Kathryn and Thomas with Anna and Pamela helping and Bruce as the expedition dog.
The route was easy to find but hard to walk - we left the car park at Ariundle and followed the old mining track right up to the top gate, then on to the miners' bridge.
When we reached the top bridge we stopped for a breather and John Donaldson climbed under the bridge looking at the stonework. Many of the party were pretty tired but they all pushed on to the Fee Donald Mine where we found some good examples of minerals, including some nice galena. At the mine Amy spotted a golden eagle circling high above us.
On the way we looked at trees, including one with many woodpecker holes, bridges, drill holes in the rocks made for geological research, bracket fungi, mosses and an owl pellet on the path.
When at last we reached Cozy Knits, we saw Harry Potter's lunch being prepared (ask the explorers) and did some drawings. Half the party went straight home but the rest of us made a trip to the Ardnamurchan Library and a rock shelter near Resipole on the way back.
