The forecast said it would pour all morning, but it was fairly
good. Enthusiasm among the explorers is increasing as the
weather gets warmer, we had eleven explorers and three helpers:
Amie, Benjamin, Eilish, Ellen, JD, John Donaldson, Keiran,
Kerry, Lewis, Robin and Thomas, with Ann, Mairi and Pamela
and Bruce as the expedition dog.
We started by the river Shiel, some of the explorers got a
chance to hear the whistling wings of goldeneye drakes taking
off. We climbed laboriously up the Torr Mor and almost all
the explorers were able to get into the lookout (and out again
through the narrow gap). On the way down we looked at some
good glacial scratches on the rocks.
Then we drove to Scardoish where the explorers heard about
the girl who was drowned after being found guilty of stealing
money in Castle Tioram. We went right up the Scardoish path
to the dam, stopping to look at the rock where the clan chief
was said to have seen the smoke when the castle was burned
in 1715.
Everyone was fairly tired when we got back to the Centre,
and more than ready for their soup and roll.
