Expedition 84 - 5th April 2003
Arivegaig and the waterfall

This was a challenge, we had already failed twice in our attempt to reach the big waterfall. It was a beautiful day and we deserved better luck this time. There were ten explorers: Alexander, Allan, Amie, Benjamin, Chloe, JD, John Donaldson, Lewis, Lucy and Thomas, and four adults, Philippa and John Dove, Pamela and John Mac., with Bruce as the expedition dog.
We set off from the Arivegaig Bridge with a good map and high hopes and walked along the shore and then up the hill through the old wood, looking at some coppiced and pollarded trees on the way. We stopped a the top of the hill on the site of an old croft and had a biscuit and looked under a tin sheet which only had ants, before dragging ourselves up to the top of the hill. We saw a lot of interesting things on the way but were rather disappointed to find that in spite of our best intentions, we were still too far from the waterfall. The day was warm and the hill steep and there was only one vote for carrying on to the waterfall, so back we came, looking around the rock pools on the way back.
One compensation was the reopening of the Pantry and everyone settled down quietly to eat and draw.
