This was a short trip, since we all had to be at the Moidart
Produce Show in the afternoon. A good day and an impressive
turnout of nine explorers: Adrian, Benjamin, Edward, Eilish,
John Donaldson, Kerry, Peter William, Rebecca and Thomas,
five adults: Ann, Craig, Pamela, Peter and Philippa with Bruce
and Chrunchie as the canine contingent.
We drove to the forest turning place beyond the picnic site
and first looked at a long stone building which must have
had something to do with work in the woods; then we found
the old track which we followed across the wayleave and steeply
up through the woods until we almost reached the top fence.
We stopped for a breather and then attempted to come down
through the open larch plantation but it got too steep so
we climbed back up and returned down the same track.
At the bottom the explorers knocked on the door of a caravan,
but there was nobody home; we had another excursion into the
woods above the road where the explorers looked at a recent
camp site and also found the 'Whisky Tree' - if you want to
know where it is, you'll have to ask them. On the way back
the explorers were told how to make a secret sign meaning
'gone home'.
Finally we crossed the road and had a look across the loch
to see if there were any otters about. We didn't see any otters
but Craig took a group to the water's edge and found some
pretty good starfish.
We still had sufficient time for something to eat at the Pantry
and time for drawings too.
