Expedition 114 - 26th June 2004
Gorteneorn, near Arivegaig

The forecast was absolutely terrible so I wasn't sure we would make it all the way, and we didn't once again! We had nine optimistic explorers: Abbie, Alexandria, Allan, Amy, Carol-Anne, Chloe, Jack, Lucy and Sarah, with four helpers: Chris, John Evans, Philippa and Sandra plus Lady as the expedition dog.

We managed fine along the open track and had a bit of a struggle getting up to the top of the first hill, where we stopped for a break. At this point everyone was in pretty good order: it wasn't too far to the waterfall, and we even got close enough to see it but then the wind got up and it started raining and we turned back rather than get stuck on the high ground in bad weather.

We soon found the path and went back down to the old power station and we had a look at this before moving across some boggy ground upstream to the old pasture. Everybody stopped at a cleft ash tree by the stream and several explorers made an examination of its hollow trunk.

We stayed here until the midges started to make themselves felt and then returned to the path and back to the cars.
