Expedition 163 - 6th January 2007
Port a'Bhata Mill

This was not a promising day but it turned out to be a great expedition.
It started out badly since I forgot the Tunnock's wafers but Gary got some from the shop so that was all right. We had six explorers, Caleb, Caulay, Calum, Chris, Nicole and Sam, and ten helpers, Andrew D., Andrew L., Becky, Corinne, Gary, Heather, John Dove, Johnny, Neil and Philippa; plus Ellie and Roo to keep us in order.
We started from Mingarry and went up through the woods looking at the base of an old bridge on the way up. When we reached High Mingarry we headed east straight up the steep slope and when we reached the top we were not far from the rocking stone, which everyone climbed on.
Then we headed north on the high ground until we reached the head of the valley. There were quite a few fallen trees in the gorge and it was very difficult to get down over the slippery rocks and grass, but everyone made it OK. We spent quite a lot of time examining a strange round building which someone suggested could have been a duck pond, one of the more imaginative explanations.
Then we pushed on down to the mill, where we stopped for our wafers and had time to walk down to the shore opposite Kinacara.
No time to relax, we set off smartly and found a good valley which led us up onto the top again without too much trouble and then it was an easy walk down into Mingarry again.
Unfortunately the Pantry was not available so we got no drawings this time, the picture shows the explorers in the round building.
