Expedition 199 - 31st August 2008
Glenforslan

This was a day when we didn’t have any young explorers – they were all off producing a record entry for the junior competitions at the Moidart Produce Show.

Under normal circumstances I might have cancelled the expedition but two people had come especially from Australia, and that hasn’t happened before. We were four in number, Andrea and Maris plus Allan and Maria from Canberra. Maria’s people are thought to have left Moidart and migrated on the ‘British King’ in the 1830s, although I haven’t been able to track them down yet in the local records. We also had Jamie and Flame, two Labradors with excellent noses for finding stuff on the hill.

This was a fairly fast expedition, straight up to the village at Glenforslan, a short break for the Tunnock’s wafers and back to the cars. The weather was not great but at least the rain held off. I was quite impressed that everyone was able to cross the narrow dam, even in a fairly strong breeze. However, without a gathering of eager young eyes, we didn’t find a lot of surprising things, except for Jamie, who spent a long time on the hill with something smelly.
